This beautiful clock is a lovely example of the highest quality of Arts and Crafts pewter. It features the Roundhead trademark, used by Samuel Groves of Birmingham England between 1922 and the 1950’s. It is numbered 8237 and was clearly intended as a premium product of its day. Behind the hammered’ Saxon helmet’ design the main case is a solidly made drum of 9½ cm diameter supported by a nicely-shaped curved two-prong support with a substantial bun foot to accept the securing nut inside.
In keeping with its premium product status the movement is one of the best quality French pendule movements, filling the case, and topped off with a Swiss-made 11 jewel platform escapement, allowing the clock to be moved around the house as needed. The gentle tick also allows it to be entirely suitable as a bedroom or boudoir clock. It is available for sale at £830.
