This clock is an unusual William IV rosewood ‘drop dial’ case with 9 in painted dial. An East Anglian clock by W H Howe, of Clare in Suffolk, the case includes a glazed pendulum aperture and very good brass inlay. The single fusee high quality movement is beautiful with shaped and initialled plates and shows every sign of high quality making. It runs superbly and was a real pleasure to restore. There is some minor veneer cracking and unevenness in the finish of the dial; this has been well stabilised under restoration and is commensurate with age and does not detract from the appearance on the wall.
The clock will be set up in the purchaser’s home and maintenance instruction provided as required. This clock is overall 30 cm (12 inches) in diameter and 14 cm (5.5 inches) deep and overall is 51 cm (20 inches) high. It is available for sale at £1,450.
