This is a good example of a fairly rare derivative of the popular Act of Parliament tavern clocks. With a flame mahogany case it is an impressive and imposing clock, perfect as a dramatic statement for a large hallway or sitting room. Its 15 in silvered convex dial and glass within a turned surround is an easy and accurate way to tell the time and its slow and gentle tick is a relaxing backdrop to any living room.

The dial sits above an elegant trunk with long door flanked by fluted pilasters, meaning that at 50in high it is a perfect centre piece for a dramatic room setting or to sit at the top of the staircase.

The eight day movement striking the hours on a bell is typical of London-made long case; a 'Grandfather' clock of its day. Although unsigned, which is not unusual, there are witness marks from other repairers, and plenty of them. It also features a fascinating repair to the false plate using discarded parts of other clock plates. This clock has been much-loved and regularly used and is now looking for a new permanent home.

The overall height of the clock is just over 40 cm (15 ¾ inches). It is 26 cm (10 ¼ inches) wide and measures just 10 cm (4 inches) from front to back. It is available for sale at £2,450 (not including steel display frame).
