Perfect for the living room or hallway and neatly-sized, this ‘Vienna-style’ wall clock takes up little space, being only 18 cm deep, yet provides a characterful focus at home. Made by the highly regarded clockmaker, Lenzkirch, manufacturers of excellent Black Forest clocks in the 19th and early 20th Century, the high quality ‘eight day’ duration movement offers rack striking on each hour and half hour on a coiled blued-steel gong and is in perfect working order. It comes complete with pendulum, two weights, crank key and wall spacers.
Lenzkirch was founded in 1851 using the latest manufacturing techniques to recreate hand-making. This clock is a very good example of this factory’s output. It bears the Lenzkirch trademark stamp on the back plate and gong stand, and is numbered 455862 dating it between 1870 and 1880.
Restored in our workshops we can attest to the quality of the movement and it represents outstanding value for money when compared to original Vienna-made clocks. Its two train, weight-driven movement with deadbeat escapement striking on a single gong maintains exceptional timekeeping. This particular clock case is beautifully finished with mirrored grain in the door. It features front and side glasses to allow the pendulum and movement to be visible in operation. There are some minor marks on the case surface that are commensurate with its age but nothing to detract from its appearance and Lenzkirch was well known for the quality of its cases. The blued steel hands are original and have been re-blued by us and the 17 cm dial is clear and virtually unmarked. This clock is in excellent condition with a beautiful shine and a wonderful colour. It is a privilege to be able to offer such a genuine and original clock for sale.
This clock has been fully serviced in Southern Clocks’ workshops. A full photographic record of the work done is maintained and the clock will be set up in the purchaser’s home and maintenance instruction provided as required.
This clock is 102 cm (40¼ inch) high, 39½ cm (15½ in) wide and only 18 cm (7 inches deep) and is available for sale at £2,100.
